Name: Nitin
Class: Kindergarten
Lesson: Depression Management

I remember myself singing and dancing

If you’re happy and you know it,
clap your hands
Clap! Clap!!
If you’re happy and you know it,
Then your face will surely show it.

Right in kindergarten
They taught us
How to show happiness
With actions and demonstrations
How to hide depression
Behind faces and expressions
And now they say
“Depression is invisible
You must be trained
To observe the signs”

Well, Nitins of our nation
Kids
Teens
Adults
Married
Singles
Professionals
Students
Pregnant
Old & wrinkled
Never forget
Their first lesson

Depression Management

Result?

Every third Indian is depressed. Statistics!
We are the most depressed country in the world. Statistics!
Technically, a rich people’s problem
Was aced by a poor country.
Don’t bother doing the mathematics
The question is outside of syllabus
Actually we prayed for grace
Chanted mantras for the top position

Oh, the mantras
That’s our secret!
That shoos negative thoughts and people away
And also our knowledge, we know a lot!

We knew, shit happens
So, we “Oh ji, mitti pao ji” the topic (chuck it!)
And sent our daughters back consulting an astrologer
Without involving a “third person” titled, Marriage Counsellor
